Love the skin you're in.
It was Saturday afternoon at a packed mall and I had one goal. I need boobs. I plan on auditioning for the Celtics dancers in about a month and while I can eat well and work my butt off at the gym, I'm not entirely sure how to go about the whole chest thing. One thing I am sure of- I need to fake it until I make it. Literally. So off I go, into Victoria's Secret to seek out the least judgmental looking sales associate.
I approached a friendly looking, maybe a little too bubbly blonde woman. Took a deep breath and said, in just one breath, "I am auditioning for the Celtics in about month and I am completely flat like a toddler but I will never make it if I have a flat chest so I need help making it appear like I have boobs." Cue the flushed face and desperate attempt to catch up on the breath I had just lost. Blondie giggled and said "Hun, you need a bombshell. They give EVERYONE cleavage." She doesn't get it. I literally resemble a toddler. Handing me a 32A (yup..) bombshell AND a padded sports bra she directed me to the fitting room and instructed that I come out to show her after I put them both on. I did as I was told and just stood there for a moment. This bitch is expecting me to walk out of the fitting room a whole new woman and I still don't have cleavage. I opened the door and received an "oh...." Awesome. "You have great abs."
After figuring out that the bombshell, padded sports bra and cutlets will do the trick I paid for all my new treats and left Victorias Secret feeling so embarrassed. I mean the woman was friendly and supportive and I had a friend with me to help. But there is a standard of beauty, especially in that store and I clearly was not fitting the bill. I am almost 21 years old and I can't fill out an A cup.. is this a sick joke.
A few days later I am almost okay with things again. I don't have boobs and that is due to my super low body fat percentage which I work hard for in the gym and eating well. Because I don't have boobs I don't have to wear a bra to class, can buy cute bathing suits, don't have to worry about back pain and can leap and turn with nothing weighing me down. While I am still jealous of everyone with even a little cleavage I'm not going to be unhappy with myself. This is what I have and I am thankful for that.
Love the skin you're in ladies. You are perfect just the way you are. If you're unhappy with something- that's why they make bombshells, cutlets and padded sports bras.

ReplyDeleteLove this! We all have our flaws and things that we don't love about ourselves but at the end of the day there's always a flipside. Thank goodness for Victoria's Secret - I feel you!
