It's the little things.

Okay so at this point we all know how much I love and adore country music. Zac Brown Band has been known to take my life and put it into song form, more than once. Only natural that I would open todays post with a ZBB quote from one of my favorites.

"It's funny how it's the little things in life, that mean the most." - Chicken Fried

Well friends, there are three things that absolutely haven't left my mind this week. Two of which, very few people know about. That is until I hit the blue publish button to my right and all of blog land and beyond has access to my secrets. No pressure or anything.

The above is one of the only ones I could find to accurately depict where I am going with this. I'm going to have throw things back a few years to properly explain where I'm coming from. Before I dive into an explanation, do you see the rays or beams of light poking out from behind the clouds? Those are the best little reminders of love ever.

The summer before I went into eighth grade my Papa was diagnosed with cancer. What started as lung cancer, presumably from smoking cigarettes back in the day when it was cool (insert sick face-mask emoji here,) spread to his bones and was throughout his body before we were even aware it existed. The reason for catching it? A pain in his shoulder we all chalked up as a result of the 100 daily pushups he had still been doing. That's right folks- 100 pushups everyday since World War II. God love that man. It was almost two months to the day after diagnosis that we lost one of the most influential men in my life. In those two months we hugged a little tighter, said "I love you" a little more and appreciated even the most mundane moments. For me to tell you my Papa was an extraordinary man would be an understatement.

At some point in those two months my cousin, Katherine, mentioned she loved the way the sun shone through the clouds. To this, my Papa responded "I'll shine down for you. That's how you will all know I'm still here." Now, nothing in the world makes me feel as good as seeing a beam of light shine through the clouds. Not even a brand new Louis Vuitton bag. Although, if someone were to offer me one I wouldn't say no.

Playing off the sun beams; my second little thing is a spot I go to look for them. During the summer primarily, there is a small park in my hometown where I could sit for hours just talking to myself. I'm not sure why but I seem to do my best thinking there. The best part? There's always rays of sun to talk to! None of my friends know when I'm there or even that I go to make me feel better. It's all mine. Muahaha, just kidding. It only gets kind of awkward when people come to walk their dogs and I'm the weird girl sitting alone. I mean, whatever. Haven't ya'll ever seen a girl sitting in the sun before?

The third and final small thing of the week is having my best friend home for spring break. Let's meet her.

That's my bestie, Jen. She goes to school all the way in Florida and more often than not it makes me miserable. Jen makes me feel better when I'm irrationally upset about a coffee Dunkin Donuts screwed up. She makes me laugh when she sends me love letters via text at 2am, typically after a few snapchats of her inhaling wine. Oh! She also loves wine as much as me. She tells me it's totally fine to not wear a bra to class and even better to go tanning regularly. I mean it IS a fact that everyone looks better tan. No, but on a serious note, I can and do tell her everything about me and she still loves me. That is really impressive, my friends.

The point of this little blog post today is to share that in my experience, the things that warm your heart the most are the things that are both free and irreplaceable. The little things.

Liebster Award.

Feeling extra thankful today for my new found friends in blog land. I have met many supportive ladies and am loving how things are going for me right now. There will be some exciting changes around here in just a couple weeks. I can't wait to share with everyone! Anyways, I was recently nominated for a Liebster Award. The goal of a Liebster Award is to generate attention toward up and coming bloggers. Typically those nominated have 200 or less followers. Upon getting nominated there are a few rules, but as you know I enjoy breaking rules.

Screen Shot 2014-02-24 at 11.14.48 AM

The rules are as follows-

  1. Acknowledge the nominating blogger

  2. Answer 11 questions the nominating blogger has created for you

  3. Provide 11 random facts about yourself

  4. List some bloggers with fewer than 200 followers that you really feel deserve a little blogging love!

  5. Let all of the bloggers know you have nominated them.  You cannot nominate the blogger that nominated you!

  6. Post 11 questions for the bloggers you have nominated to answer.

Here's the thing friends. I have a few too many bloggers to nominate. Mine are all a part of the Her Campus Blogger Network. I am encouraging ordering you all to visit the network and check out some of bloggers on the list. The blogs are categorized by their primary posts. Looking for a fun DIY project? Click on a blog in the DIY section and get in touch with your creative side. All of the bloggers are so amazing and I just love reading their stuff. I hope you do, too! While you're there you may as well check out the rest of the website. I absolutely love Her Campus and what they stand for. Check them out, friends.

Moving on- I would like to send a big old Thank you over to Heather at Coconut & Cotton for nominating me. Check her out and tell her I sent ya. Or not... just go. Heather has provided some questions for me to answer so let's get to answering.

1. Why did you start your blog?

I started my blog because I was hoping to someday join the Her Campus Blogger Network. I also was hopeful there would be a day I could look back at these pages and remember all of the amazing things in my life. Whether they are good or bad, I want to remember everything.

2. What’s your favorite lip product?

My favorite lip product is a simple chapstick made by Avon. It is called Intense Moisture Lip Therapy and it is really the only product I use regularly.

3. Do you have curly, wavy, or straight hair?

My hair is stick straight. So lame, right? During the summer months when I am sun kissed and salty my hair has a pretty nice curl wave to it. Other than that I am as boring as they come, folks.

4. What’s your favorite movie?

If I was trying to look like an adult I would tell you my favorite movie of all time is Remember The Titans. If we are being completely honest, which we are, I would tell you my favorite movie is Despicable Me.

5. Who inspires you the most?

This question is always so difficult for me because I am constantly drawing inspiration from everyone and everything I can get my hands on. I think everyone we meet is for a reason and we come across certain situations for a reason as well. However, since I don’t want to completely shy away from the question I will say my cousin. My cousin Katherine is one of my best friends and has the most amazing heart of anyone I have ever met.

6. When do you blog? Day? Night? On your lunch break?

I typically blog whenever I have a free moment. Right now it is while I am nannying and my little chick is watching Strawberry Shortcake. Usually it is in the morning. Or I will write a post at night and schedule it for the next morning.

7. If you could only wear one of the following which would you choose? Rings, bracelets, or necklaces.

Rings. No question. Ring power forever.

8. What’s your favorite foundation/powder?

MAC face and body foundation. Heaven in a damn bottle my friends. Heaven.

9. Describe your perfect vacation.

My perfect vacation would come with a beach and some cocktails. There would also be ample time for exploring the culture and making friends with the locals.

10. If you could go anywhere in the world where would it be?

Anywhere in the world!? It is a really big world out there. Yikes. Santorini, Greece. Who’s taking me?

11. What’s your middle name?

Marie. C'mon parents, you couldn't get a little creative?

As for the random facts. How about 20 instead of 11? Over achiever, I know. Find those gems here.

A big ol' Thank you to all my new friends!

Valentine's Day.

If you have been around these parts before you read that I am the least romantic gal, well, ever.  My idea of the perfect date is some form of a Boston sporting event with a beer in hand. While long walks on the beach would be nice it would have nothing to do with the conversation and company, and everything to do with the beach being my happy place. While there have been a few exceptions to this, I just can't wrap my head around the hopeless romantic thing. With that being said, I don't want you to think I don't believe in love and will never find it. I do believe in it and I have found it.

While I think the idea of gifts for Valentine's day is stupid, appreciating the people around us and letting them know we love them definitely is not. Life happens quickly and tomorrow is never promised. If you're one to preach about how much you hate the holiday step back and ask yourself a few questions. Is your family extremely important to you? Would it hurt your heart terribly to lose a friend? Does your puppy make your day? Then you too have found love. Embrace it.

I can only imagine what kind of hateful status' and tweets I will come across on February 14th. Hey, even if you are having a single ladies drinking fest with your girlfriends, at least you're appreciating something or someone(s).

Are you wondering where I'm going with this? Me too, a little bit. A Valentine's checklist. For the hopeless romantic and the hopeless... hopeless.

ONE.// Chocolate. Whether you're in a relationship, single, married, emotionally damaged or emotionally unavailable (name that movie) buy yourself some chocolate and enjoy every bite. You're welcome.

TWO.// Tell someone you love that you love them. Mom, Dad, brother, sister, puppy, friend, hairdresser, manicurist.. whatever. Just do it.

THREE.// Don't say negative things about a holiday other people may enjoy. Gifts though, gifts are stupid.

FOUR.// Appreciate yourself for wherever you are in life right now and how far you have come. You know, instead of gifts for the people around you,(if you're into that) I think you should treat yourself to something fancy. Yep, buy yourself that Beamer. Or your favorite bottle of wine. Semantics.

FIVE.// Understand that love is extremely magical and fulfilling. Not having certain people in your life would make you one miserable girl now wouldn't it. So even if it is that single ladies drunk night with your friends, at least you have friends to have single ladies drunk night with.

Happy Valentines day to everyone out there. Have a great day, whatever your situation may be.

Linking up with Sarah and Helene today!

Friends and Treats.

Okay, so I know I talk about Dream like all of the time but it is seriously the best job ever. I love going to work and have an even better time helping girls pick out the perfect dress for whatever event they may have coming up. In addition to all this fun I have become pretty good friends with my boss. It sounds weird right? It's not. Anyways, I was just poking around Fallan's blog.  She has a page of Style posts and a page of Recipe posts. I feel like the recipe's are too good not to share so that's why I'm here. I highly suggest the "desserts" and "chocolate" tags but that could have something to do with my current chocolate craving. Now, go get lost in mouth watering blog posts!

Next point- Moving forward posts about the Bach will probably be their own entity in my blog. You also shouldn't expect them for a few weeks until I have developed either a loving connection or deep dislike with/for the ladies. Unless something unreal happens like oh, I don't know... A LADY FAKING PREGNANT. Freaking lunatic I tell you.

On a real note though. Juan Pablo's abs. And Arms. And back. Yeah. Oh and his daughter, how cute is she? I want to play with her so she can teach me spanish and Juan Pablo and I can fall in love. After I win over Camila Valentina of course.  On another real note, it feels weird dropping "Juan Pablo" like it's normal but hey, this is pop culture.

Enjoy Fallan's baking during the next Bach episode and report back here or to my twitter (@pearls_sass) for analysis.

XOXO
