Spring Break Body.

I don't know what is going on but I think the older I get the faster time seems to move. It is already the end of January and February is right around the corner. By the way it's 2014 as well... what? In one short month spring break will be here and a lucky few ladies will be heading to significantly warmer climates. I know it may seem like this post is to help you but I actually hate you. Unless I end up in Florida. In which case we can be friends.

For those lucky few headed to an island oasis or state much warmer than mine, you're probably slightly worried about the bikini sitch. Don't fret- I'm here to assist in all of your bikini needs.  Above all the most important thing to remember is crash diets are terrible for your body. If your plan is to live on celery and water for the entire week leading up to your trip, you need to think again. After the trip, or possibly during depending on how fantastic your all-inclusive plan is, the weight is going to come back quicker and easier than it has in the past. Also remember that crash dieting is depleting your body of vital nutrients needed to keep your body healthy and keep everything functioning properly. Trust me, you will need that liver of yours in tip top shape for your week long jail break from textbooks. I know I will anyway.

As far as diet- make sure you're eating! Subtle changes can actually make quite the difference. Do your best to avoid carbs, salts and dairy. Choose natural sugars over artificial and drink a lot of water. First, carbs can't be avoided at all cost and shouldn't be especially when you're working out. This is where the grey area comes into play. Choose a complex carb over a simple carb. For instance if you have the choice between a whole grain bread or pasta and a white flour bread or pasta, choose whole grain. Whole grains are harder for our body to break down making it work just a little harder. Whole grains also means you're getting the benefit and nutrients of the entire seed like Vitamin B, Iron and protein. Salts and dairy products are going to be partially responsible for bloating as they cause your body to retain water. Drinking plenty of water, 8 glasses a day to be exact, will ensure that you are keeping your body flushed and happy. Lastly, a natural sugar like those found in fruits are better for your body and give you a bit more energy than an artificial option. Often, I will reach for a smoothie or bowl of mixed fruit instead of a coffee. Just as much, if not more energy, with no crash and no guilt. When I'm rushed with work and classes, I love Naked juice drinks.

Naked-Juice

While I have never believed this product was "all natural" I do believe that when pressed for time they are a superior option to a bag of chips or Marylou's girl scout cookie coffee on the way to class. Of course, homemade smoothies are always the way to go.

Exercise is going to come down to at least a half hour of cardio a day. Since we're on a time crunch, I would push for everyday. Cardio can be anything you choose so long as your heart rate is up. A little sweat never killed anybody. Treadmill, elliptical, Zumba, Kickboxing, pilates, you name it- just do something. If you want to do some weight training to add a little definition to those muscles then you do you, you overachiever! 3 sets of 15 is my go-to. Push yourself without hurting yourself. A while back I posted a simple routine that I do in my bedroom on lazy days. This would be easy to follow and complete in a dorm room and hopefully make you feel like you worked hard.  Make sure the cardio is done in one form or another along with the diet.

This plan is extremely simple but if you stick to it I promise you will see a difference. Let me know what you think or if you plan on trying, please! I can't wait for feedback so don't be shy and good luck!

Wine Down Wednesday.

Good afternoon blog land! I am blogging to ya'll today from 7 degree weather that will feel like -10 tonight. I am also buried (not really, I ventured into the world briefly) under a foot of snow. Perhaps a little more but I mean who really knows. I also am no longer fighting a cold but am a sneezy, coughing and disgusting mess. I know, how attractive can one human being be. So despite the title of this post being about wine-ing down, tonight,  I think I will be "baileys-and-hot-chocolate-plus-nyquil-ing down. That's just too hard to fit into a title and doesn't own a category in my little dot com corner.

Moving on.

Since I was blessed with a snow day and runny nose I spent the majority of my day scouring Pinterest and various blogs for inspiration. What I came up with was uncontrollable jealousy after reading Erin's vacation recap over at Three Thirds Hazel and depression over my lack of creativity and money from pinterest-surfing. (I should mention I made it out to run a few errands and a little dress modeling. Find pics on twitter @pearls_sass.) So anyway since today is such a relaxing day with such strong jealousy, I would like to present-

If Life Were Pinterest Perfect with your host, me.

If life were pinterest perfect I would be packing my bags and jetting off to this picture perfect location in Cabo San Lucas. I would be able to lounge on the beach while drinking fruity cocktails and spend my evenings eating amazing dinners only to burn calories by dancing the night away. Except since life would be perfect calories wouldn't actually exist, duh.

If life were pinterest perfect I would have a cute little apartment decorated impeccably, where I could be as active or lazy as I wanted with no one to answer or explain myself too. I mean so what if a girl wants to bake chocolate cookies at midnight or do a circuit workout at 2am. Yolo, baby.

Speaking of baking. If life were perfect I would make amazing meals and desserts every night and the dishes would wash themselves. I am working on transitioning this one into a real life skill. The cooking that is. Stay tuned. (Those calories wouldn't matter either.. obviously. )

If life were perfect this would be a casual outfit for me opposed to the leggings, sweatshirt and boots look I rock daily. Oh yeah and there would be a photographer following me around to catch moments like these.

Finally, if life were pinterest perfect I would be blessed with the time and creativity to make something like this happen.

However, life isn't perfect. Not even a little bit. It's okay because I still have a roof over my head and adult hot chocolate to relax with. I have puffs next to my warm bed and dinner in the oven. So, without all of the extras, I'm as rich as they come. In love, happiness and morals that is!

It's about that time, folks. Happy hump day!

2014 Wish List.

Well folks, it's 2014. Has been for a month, I know, I know....details. Anyways throughout this year I am saving money for three big items that I want/need. I plan to save the majority of my paychecks every week. Which will be a struggle but once I put money into my savings account I never touch it, just treat it like it't not there. This means a whole lot less online shopping. I can't promise I won't have a bad day and end up buying jeans or lululemon but I'm going to try- promise.

You're probably wondering what the three items I want are so without further ado, I present my wish list.  I should first say that I absolutely won't get all three this year but I am saving for when I can. In order of importance and necessity-

A new car. Don't get my wrong my '04 Honda Accord, Bella, is such a peach. She has everything I could want in a car- leather seats, seat warmers, a cool radio (I don't know what it's called but it has cool colors) and a sun roof which is my absolute favorite! The only problem is that she is getting old and I put a lot of miles on her every week. Therefore, I am going to need to be ready to purchase a spring chicken when the time comes. In an ideal world I will end up with a VW passat but we will see about that.  Aren't they so pretty though?

I'm thinking buying new won't actually happen and I will possibly buy a car a couple years old from a "gently used" dealership. SO many questions but part of my saving is for a new car. Which will be a boy. Just so you know.

Next.

A vacation. I want white sands, clear waters and a drink in my hand. Er, multiple drinks in my hand. Whether this be a cruise or an all-inclusive resort somewhere majestic. Give me bathing suits, sun dresses, strappy-sandals and Ray Bans. I'm a simple gal and that is all I want. Swimming with dolphins would be nifty too but hey, I'm not picky. Bring on the sun.

Lastly.

A Louis Vuitton bag. Yes, this is a material item. No, I do not desperately need this purse but if I work hard and really want one. I sure as hell am going to buy myself one. Sorry not sorry. When I seriously put some thought into it, I don't understand why I love them so much of what about them makes me so strongly desire one. The pattern's are nothing special and wearing a dark brown bag year round isn't in the cards. Not for me at least. All I can think about it how rewarding it will be to buy myself an expensive purse because I worked hard for it. Here she is.

So ladies and (gents?) these are my goals. I need to save money and lord knows I sometimes need some reminders when it comes to spending money. If I post about something I plan on buying, leave a nasty comment as fast as you can instructing me to stop in my tracks! Happy Friday!

Wishing.

Wishing for something is a funny concept. Sometimes my wishes are completely plausible, reachable goals or desires that end up coming true at one point or another. While others may require quite a bit of help and be a bit unrealistic. For example, this Christmas I wished that Santa would bring me a new iPhone. He did and it is beautiful. Right now? Well right now I am wishing I could snap my fingers and be knee deep in the water somewhere. The snapping part, well that is unrealistic. Actually getting to paradise is not unrealistic but would require money, time off, transportation and a place to stay. I have none of the above.

Wishes push me through my days though. It's my wish that I can save the money and plan a trip to a tropical paradise in the next few months. To do this I will go to work to earn the money and spend countless hours tearing through resort sites until I find the vacation that's perfect for me. On days I want to stay in bed instead of work or buy that pair of shoes I don't need, I will imagine myself on a white sand beach with countless frozen drinks delivered by a handsome cabana boy. When I actually make it there, and I will, it will be because I wished and made it happen.

I think to watch a wish come true is about as close to magic as it gets.

Make-A-Wish is a foundation that creates magic. This foundation takes sick children and makes their dreams come true right before their eyes. Have you heard of Bat Kid? If not you should take a minute to here. If that doesn't put a smile on your face for the rest of the day then I don't know what will.

About a month ago I sent an email to Make-A-Wish looking to maybe donate a dress from Dream for a prom or something. I wasn't expecting to be given the opportunity to help with a wish. The wish came straight out of a hospital bed a Children's Hospital Boston. Jasmine, our friend making the wish,  was terminally ill and hoping for a dress to wear to a party that would launch a few songs she had recorded. The chance to help with the wish was the best Christmas present I had ever received.

Unfortunately, on Christmas Eve, before the party was able to happen, Jasmine passed away. The illness had been too much for her body and it had finally caught up to her. Receiving that email from the wish coordinator absolutely broke my heart. It doesn't seem fair that a young girl should have to spend so much of her life battling a terrible illness only to pass away so young.

Aside from holding on to my friends and family a little tighter after receiving the news about Jasmine, I have decided to try as hard as I can to make every wish I have come true. You will notice my new "Bucket List" page at the top of my blog. I also, hope to help the people around me with their wishes. Maybe if I'm really lucky, I will have the opportunity to work with Make-A-Wish again!

So close, yet so far.

Good Morning, Wednesday. I'm not entirely sure I am ready for you just yet but here you are.  I can only hope you won't be too crazy. Maybe go a little easy on me for at least a few hours? However, after peeking outside I know that isn't exactly the case. I have a solid six inches of snow to clean off of my car before I can get anywhere. If getting married would promise I never had to clean my car off again, I would say sign me up. Not to say I can't take care of myself but my goodness do I hate cleaning off my car. Wednesday also drags along four days of work keeping me from now and Vacation. I'm ready for Vacation. Be good to me, Wednesday.

Tuesday brought a snow day, Chipotle, Christmas movies and my some quality time with this beauty.

I love Christmas trees. Tuesday also brought the publication of my Thought Catalog article here. I was super excited and my family was really supportive of it which always feels great! So I am off to eat something and dream about being knee deep in the water somewhere opposed to knee deep in the snow in Massachusetts.
